I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with an MA in Human Development Counseling from the University of Illinois Springfield. My coursework and degree focused on providing clinical mental health services for individuals, couples, and families. My practical training includes experiences working with youth and adults, in settings that provide substance abuse treatment and broad-based mental health counseling to both of those populations.

I worked for almost 15 years as lay staff in two different Champaign-Urbana area churches. This experience gives me an in-depth understanding of the concerns faced by religious workers. If you are a church worker—clergy or layperson—looking for a counselor, I think I have a perspective that will help me be of service to you.

Change is a major source of stress and life is full of change. I believe one of the most helpful applications of therapy is to help clients deal with the changes they encounter in their lives. Whether those changes are a result of children growing up and leaving home (the client might be the parent or the child); relationship changes such as a break up, meeting a new partner, or starting to date again after the end of a long relationship; job-related change from unemployment, exploring a new career, or retirement; learning to deal with the death of someone close to you; or any other changes that challenge you, I will do my best to help you find your best way to incorporate those changes into your life in a healthy manner. I offer a safe place to express your feelings about the changes in your life and strive to be a non-judgmental companion through that process.
Another area of interest for me as a practitioner is in assisting clients to develop sex-positive attitudes and learn how to express them in a manner that is comfortable for the client. This process may arise from issues of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation or attraction, or a desire to find an effective and safe way to talk about wants and needs in a relationship. I am a member of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association and currently accept private pay, Health Alliance, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield/Unicare/Healthlink, and Value Options clients. I am in the process of credentialing with several other insurance companies.
